Enhanced Defense Cooperation Agreement

The EDCA, which aims to complement the 1951 Mutual Defense Treaty and the 1999 Visiting Forces Convention, reaffirms the mutual cooperation between the United States and the Philippines to develop its individual and collective capabilities to resist armed attacks by improving the interoperability of the armed forces of the two countries, promoting long-term modernization, contributes to the maintenance and development of maritime security and the extension of humanitarian aid in response to natural disasters.
